How can I paint my outboard motor?

I have a 1958 johnson outboard motor that is in need of a makeover, I seen people restore these to make them look factory new but I am not willing to put that much time into it. Can I just leave the Cowel on tape off my grip and spray it down with a good spray paint? Is there anything I really have to worry about, I have seen some motors on ebay people are selling that look like they just dipped the motor in a bucket of paint. I was thinking of only taping off the handle and spraying it black and getting some 6$ decals off the net to put back on. Should I run into any problem doing this?
